Sir Frank Benson (born Nov. 4, 1858, Alresford, Hampshire, Eng.—died Dec. 31, 1939, London) was a British actor-manager whose touring company and acting school were important influences on contemporary theatre. Benson founded an acting school in 1901, and was knighted in 1916 in Drury Lane Theatre—the first actor to earn such an honour since David Garrick in the eighteenth century
