Author Bio for Macbeth, Madge
Madge Macbeth (1878-1965) was a Canadian author. She was born in Philadelphia and educated in Ontario. After graduation she toured as a mandolinist for two years. In 1901 she married Charles William Macbeth, a Canadian civil engineer. They lived in Detroit, then Ottawa but her husband died in 1904 leaving her to support two young children. She took to writing to support her family. She wrote advertising copy for the Canadian Pacific Railway and wrote stories for magazines. She published her first novel, "The Winning Game" in 1910. She was elected as president of the Canadian Authors Association in 1939, 1940 and 1941, becoming the first woman to lead that organization. (Encyclopedia of Literature in Canada)
