Description:

Normally the middle of Lake Superior is quite deep, about 300m (1000 ft) on average. However there are a few places such as Superior Shoal that are less than 10m in depth. Superior Shoal was not discovered until 1929 and its unknown depth prior to this date may have resulted in the loss of several ships. Author Fred Landon recounts the history behind this little known place in the middle of Lake Superior. [Suggest a different description.]
