Author Bio for Wallace, Frederick William

Frederick William Wallace was born on December 11, 1886 in Glasgow, Scotland and died on July 15, 1958 in Montreal, Canada. He was a journalist, photographer, historian and novelist of the Canadian fishing industry. He published his first novel Blue Water in 1907 and commanded a Q-ship, an armed merchantman used to hunt U-boats, in World War I. After the war, he became the editor of the monthly journal Canadian Fisherman for forty years. A historian of the Canadian sailing era he published three authoritative books on the subject: Wooden Ships and Iron Men in 1924, In the Wake of the Windships in 1927, and Record of Canadian Shipping in 1929.
