Description:

What was the mystery of Diseree Island in Chesapeake Bay? Why did fishermen and old sailors shake their heads and steer clear of it? What secret did the dour, interbred islanders cherish so closely? Was it the old rumour that long ago the pirate, Rafi the Blood, had buried his treasure there in the sand? None know until the yacht ‘Alethea’ sets forth on her ill-fated voyage in search of fauna, with Captain Dirk in command.

Moreover, the mysterious murders that took place as the yacht lay off the island only added to the terror of the crew, while the strange appearance of the bodies in each instance left them frozen with horror.

How Captain Dirk solved these mysteries, how he and Mona Prosser—the blonde daughter of the owner of the ‘Alethea’—led a wild chase for the treasure, dispelling fear from the island, makes one of the most exciting stories Hulbert Footner has ever written. [Suggest a different description.]

Hulbert Footner (1879–1944) was a Canadian writer of non-fiction and detective fiction.

His most successful creation was the beautiful and brilliant Madame Rosika Storey and her plain assistant who explains the evolving solutions to her boss’ cases. His Madame Storey mysteries fit the flapping 1920s like the long lizard gloves that graced her arms and did well supporting his traveling family’s lifestyle. His Rosika Storey cases appeared in Argosy All-Story Weekly every year from 1922 through 1935.--Wikipedia.
