Author Bio for Duley, Margaret
Margaret Duley (1894-1968) was a Newfoundland author. She was born in St. John's where she spent much of her life. She rarely travelled around Newfoundland but she evidently had an opinion of that life because several of her novels are based in that culture. "Eyes of the Gull" relates a tale of a woman stuck in an outport and yearns to escape a dreary existence to an idyllic place in Spain. During the Second World War she helped run a hostel in St. John's for allied servicemen. This is the basis of her book "The Caribou Hut". (Oxford Companion to Canadian Literature)
