Author Bio for Gardner, Erle Stanley
Erle Stanley Gardner (1889-1970) was an American crime novelist. He was trained as a lawyer and served as a defence lawyer for many years, achieving much notoriety for his ingenious defence strategies. He wrote hundreds of novels and short stories in the crime genre which he completed by employing several assistants who wrote down his verbal dictation. His best known work is about his character, Perry Mason, a lawyer-sleuth who solves crimes with his faithful secretary Delia Street. The novels were serialized in a successful television series which ran for 9 seasons from 1957-1966. (Chambers Biographical Dictionary)
