Description:

The liner on which Lee Mappin was travelling on what was to be one of his most dangerous and exciting missions slid unescorted from New York, her sides brilliantly flood-lit to display the neutral flag of Portugal. Among the passengers who crowded every cabin were several in whom Lee took more than a mild interest; the good-looking, smiling young Ronald Franklin, for instance, who said he was an American agent for Swiss watches; John Stanley, going out to the hard-pressed U.S. Legation in Lisbon, and his young wife Vera, daughter of a wealthy tobacco nabob; Kate McDonald, the smartly dressed but slightly pseudo-Scottish woman. Whatever the divers purposes which prompted their voyage to Europe their immediate activities were going to be very much the concern of Lee Mappin. _Unneutral Murder_ is a stream-lined story of international espionage told superbly by Hulbert Footner and set in the Azores and Lisbon, that glamorous and most intriguing of wartime capitals. Author Bio for Footner, Hulbert

Author Image

Hulbert Footner (1879–1944) was a Canadian writer of non-fiction and detective fiction.

His most successful creation was the beautiful and brilliant Madame Rosika Storey and her plain assistant who explains the evolving solutions to her boss’ cases. His Madame Storey mysteries fit the flapping 1920s like the long lizard gloves that graced her arms and did well supporting his traveling family’s lifestyle. His Rosika Storey cases appeared in Argosy All-Story Weekly every year from 1922 through 1935.--Wikipedia.
