John Pease Babcock (1855-1936) was an American born fisheries expert who worked on fish conservation in British Columbia. Born in Wisconsin, he was hired by the British Columbian government in 1901 to conduct surveys of fish stocks in the province. He relied on scientific expertise and local native knowledge to formulate his reports and advise the government on fish management policy. He laid the foundation for a science based approach to fish stock management. He was one of the most important conservationists in early 20th century British Columbia.
