Author Bio for Fearing, Kenneth
Kenneth Fearing (1902-1961) was an American writer. The son of a successful Chicago attorney, he went to the University of Wisconsin. In 1924, he moved to New York where he lived the rest of his life. There he wrote poetry and made his living writing for pulp magazines. His first two poetry collections Angel Arms (1929) and Poems (1935) were his best and earned him two Guggenheim Fellowships. Part of the American proletarian poetry movement, he was critical of the superficial "get ahead" American consumerist society and was an influence on the later beat poets. In the 1940s, he turned to writing mystery thriller novels. He wrote seven of them of which the best and most well-known is the Big Clock (1946), which was made into a film of the same name in 1948 and remade as No Way Out in 1987.
