Author Bio for Brazil, Angela
Angela Brazil (1868-1947) was a British writer of children's books which were mainly about girls. Brazil (pronounced 'Brazzle') was born in Preston, Lancashire. She was educated at girls schools, both day schools and boarding schools. She used her experience at these schools as a basis for the books she wrote. Brazil wrote accurately about school girl life and often included slang expressions used by young women in these schools. This realistic approach led to the banning of her books by some teachers. Her first book, A Terrible Tomboy was published in 1905. This was followed by 40 more books written throughout her life. She did not write in series like some other authors. All of her books have different characters and stories. She also wrote a large number of short stories for children's annuals. (West Midlands Literary Heritage)
