Gauge: 4 stitches = 1 inch
 
BACK: 
Cast on 56, 64, 72, 80, 88, 96 sts. Work in stockinette st (K 1 row, P 1 row) for 16 inches, or desired length to underarm.
 
ARMHOLES:
Bind off 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Decrease 1 st each side every other row 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5 times. (40, 44, 50, 54, 60, 64 sts). Work even until armhole measures about 4½ inches. Knit 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8 sts, bind off center 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48 sts, knit to end of row. 2, 3-4 oz. pull skeins Jack Frost Wintuk Knitting Worsted type in different colors, or small amounts of leftover yarn in different colors.
 
1—“K” Crochet Hook
Gauge: 3 DC = 1 inch
 
NOTE:Keep in mind that a poncho has four points (Front and back, and two shoulder points). You are working from the top down.
 
STRIPING PATTERN:
Three rows of each color or stripe as desired with leftover yarn.
 
Chain 36, 48.
 
ROW 1—DC in the 4th ch, 1 DC in each of the next 7, 10 chain, * 3 DC in next chain, 1 DC in each of the next 7, 10 ch, repeat from * twice, 2 DC in the last chain.
 
ROW 2—Ch 3, turn, 2 DC in the first DC, 1 DC in each of the next 9, 12 DC, 3 DC in the next DC (mark this stitch as the center stitch of the shoulder point, as all increases will always be made in the center stitch of the previous increases), 1 DC in each of the next 9, 12 DC, 5 DC in the next DC (mark this as the back point and do all increases in the center stitch), 1 DC in each of the next 9, 12 DC, 3 DC in the next DC (mark this as the shoulder point and do all increases in the center stitch), 1 DC in each of the next 9, 12 DC, 3 DC in the last DC.
 
ROW 3—Ch 3, (this counts as the first DC), turn, 1 DC in the first DC, work to the center point of the shoulder, 3 DC in the center point, work to the center point of the back, 3 DC in the center point, work to the center point of the shoulder, 3 DC in the center point, work to the last stitch, 2 DC in the top of the ch 3. Remember to work the striping pattern.
 
ROW 4—Ch 3, (counts as the first DC), turn, 2 DC in the first DC, work to the center point of the shoulder, 3 DC in the center point, work to the center point of the back, 5 DC in the back point, work to the center point of the shoulder, 3 DC in the shoulder point, work to the last stitch, 3 DC in the top of the ch 3. Repeat Rows 3 and 4 once.
 
ROW 5—(Joining Row) Work one slip stitch in the top of the ch 3 on the other side (this will be the center of the front point), ch 3, 2 DC in the same stitch, continuing in pattern, work 3 DC in each of the remaining 3 points, ending 1 slip stitch in the top of the ch 3.
 
ROW 6—Slip stitch across 1 stitch, ch 3 (this counts as the first DC), continuing in pattern work 5 DC in the center stitch of the back and front points and 3 DC in the center of the shoulder points. (this will make the front and back points longer) (always join the end of the row with a slip stitch to the top of the ch 3).
 
ROW 7—Slip stitch across 2 stitches, ch 3, (this counts as the first DC), continuing in pattern work 3 DC in each center stitch of the four points. Repeat rows 6 and 7 until poncho is 16, 20 rows in length.
 
FINISHING:
Border—Starting at the left side of the neck, work one row of SC around the front opening. Using a double strand of yarn, make a 4 foot chain. Lace up the front.
 
FRINGE:
Using desired colors, cut 7" long pieces of yarn. Holding three pieces together. Work a slip knot in every other stitch.

MATERIALS:
1—“K” hook
1, 2-4 oz. Jack Frost Wintuk Knitting Worsted type
 
Chain 52, 61. Join with a slip stitch.
 
ROW 1—Ch 2, 1 DC in each ch around, join with a slip stitch to the top of the ch 2.
 
ROW 2—* Ch 3, 1 SC in the 2nd DC, ch 3, 1 SC in the next DC, repeat from the * around. Mark the end of the round.
 
ROW 3—* Ch 3, 1 SC under the ch 3, repeat from the * around.
For the larger size repeat Row 3 twice.
 
ROW 4—* Work ch 3, 1 SC under the next ch 3; four times, ch 3, 1 SC under the same ch 3 (an increase), repeat from the * around.
 
ROWS 5-18Smaller size, 7-19 Larger size:
* Ch 4, 1 SC under the next space, repeat from the * around. For the smaller size end off.
Larger Size Row 20—Working even, increase in every 6th space. Work even for 4 more rows.
 
FINISHING:
Using double yarn make a 36" chain. On the smaller size work a border of SC around the neck. On the larger size work a scallop border of 1 SC in the chain, * skip 2 chain, 5 DC in the next chain, skip 2 chain, 1 SC in the next chain, repeat from the * around.
 
FRINGE:
Cut 10" pieces of yarn. Holding 3 pieces together, fold in half and work a slip knot in each space around the bottom.

Nocturne Poncho

SIZE: One size fits all
 
MATERIALS:
3-4 oz. pull skeins, Jack Frost Wintuk Knitting Worsted type
1—“K” Crochet Hook
 
Gauge: 4 groups of 1 DC, Ch 1, 1 DC = 3½"
 
Chain 72 loosely. Join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
 
ROW 1—Ch 2, 1 DC in the first chain, 1 DC in each remaining chain, join with a slip stitch to the 2nd ch.
 
ROW 2—Ch 3, 1 DC in the same stitch (second chain), 1 DC, Ch 1, 1 DC in the first DC, * skip 1 DC, 1 DC, Ch 1, 1 DC in each of the next 2 DC, repeat from the * around, ending skip 1 DC, join with a slip stitch to the 2nd Ch.
 
ROW 3—Ch 3, 1 DC under the remaining 3rd Ch, * 1 DC, ch 1, 1 DC under the next Ch 1 space, repeat from the * around, ending join with a slip stitch to the 2nd Ch.
Repeat Row 3 until piece measures about 6".
 
ROW 4—Ch 4, 1 DC under the ch space, * 1 DC, Ch 2, 1 DC under the next Ch space, repeat from the * around, ending join with a slip stitch to the 2nd Chain. Repeat Row 4 until piece measures about 10".
 
ROW 5—Increase row—Ch 4, 1 DC under the chain space, 1 DC, Ch 2, 1 DC under the next chain space, * 1 DC, Ch 2, 1 DC, Ch 2, 1 DC under the next chain space, 1 DC, Ch 2, 1 DC under each of the next 2 chain spaces, repeat from the * around, ending 1 DC, Ch 2, 1 DC, Ch 2, 1 DC under the Chain space, join with a slip stitch to the 2nd chain. Repeat pattern Row 4 until piece measures 20". End off.
 
FINISHING:
Work 1 row of DC around the neck. Using a double strand of yarn, make a 4 foot chain, and run it through the 2nd row of DC.
 
FRINGE:
Wrap yarn around a 10" cardboard. Cut one end. Holding 3 pieces together, make a slip knot in each Ch 2 space.

ARMHOLES:
ROW 3—Ch 1, turn, slip stitch across 4, 4, 4, 5, 5 stitches, 1 SC in each SC, not working the last 4, 4, 4, 5, 5 SC. (31, 37, 43, 47, 53 SC)
 
ROW 4—Decrease row. Ch 1, turn, 1 SC in the second SC, 1 SC in each SC, not working the last SC. (1 SC decreased on each side). Repeat Row four 2, 2, 2, 3, 3 more times (25, 31, 37, 39, 45 SC). Work even until armhole measures 4, 4, 4½, 4½, 4½".
 
ROW 5—Neck Shaping—Ch 1, turn, work across 9, 11, 13, 14, 16 SC.
 
ROW 6—Ch 1, turn, 1 SC in the 2nd SC, 1 SC in each remaining SC.
 
ROW 7—Work even. Repeat Rows 6 and 7—2, 2, 3, 3, 4 more times. (6, 8, 9, 10, 11 SC). Work even until armhole measures 7, 7, 7½, 7½, 8". End off.
 
OTHER SHOULDER—Attach yarn to the neck edge, leaving out 7, 9, 11, 11, 13 SC in the center. Starting with Row 5 work the other shoulder to correspond, reversing the shaping.
 
FRONT: 
Work the same as the back until the armhole decreasing is completed.
Work even until armhole measures 3, 3, 3½, 3½, 4". Work the neck shaping the same as the back, starting with Row 5.
Work even until piece measures 7, 7, 7½, 7½, 8". End off. Work the other shoulder to correspond, reversing the shaping.
 
FINISHING:
Sew the shoulder and the side seams. Work 1 row of SC around the neck and armhole edges. Block if necessary.
 
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SKIRT (SIZES ABOVE):
 
Skirt is planned for 18" length. Make any adjustments before the decreasing.
 
CHAIN—43, 49, 55, 61, 67. Starting with Row 1 of the top back, work even until piece measure 11". Work even until piece measures 17½", decreasing 1 stitch each side every 5th row.
 
WAISTBAND:
Work 1 row of DC. End off. Make 2 pieces.
 
FINISHING:
Sew seams. Make a 5 foot chain using a double strand of yarn.
Weave the chain through the waistband. Block if necessary.

MIDDLE SECTION OF BACK:
 
Chain 49, 54, 59, 64, 69.
 
ROW 1—1 DC in 7th Ch, 1 DC in each of the next 2 ch, * Ch 2, skip 2 chain, 1 DC in each of the next 3 Ch, repeat from * across, (9, 10, 11, 12, 13 blocks and spaces).
 
ROW 2—Ch 4, turn, * 3 DC under the Ch 2 space, Ch 2, repeat from the * across, ending 3 DC under the turning chain.
Piece will measure 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 inches wide.
 
ROW 3—Repeat Row 2.
 
ARMHOLES:
ROW 4—Ch 1, turn, slip stitch across 5 stitches (1 block and 1 space), Ch 4, 3 DC under the Ch 2 space, work even across row, not working across the last 3 DC and the turning chain. (7, 8, 9, 10, 11 blocks and spaces). Work even in pattern until armhole measures about 5, 5½, 6, 6½, 7".
 
NECK SHAPING AND SHOULDER:
ROW 5—Ch 4, turn, 3 DC under the Ch 2 space, * Ch 2, 3 DC under the Ch 2 space, repeat from the * 1, 1, 1, 1, 2 times. (3, 3, 3, 3, 4 spaces) Repeat Row 5 once.
 
ROW 6—Repeat Row 5, ending with Chain 9, 9, 14, 14, 14.
 
FRONT NECK SHAPING:
ROW 7—1 DC in the 7th Ch, 1 DC in each of the next 2 chain, sizes 8, 10, and 12 only, Ch 2, skip 2 Chain, 1 DC in each of the last 3 Ch, all sizes, work even in pattern across row. (4, 4, 5, 5, 6 spaces). Work even in pattern until armhole measures about 10, 11, 12, 13, 14", ending at armhole edge.
 
ROW 8—Ch 9, turn, 1 DC in 7th Ch, 1 DC in each of next 2 Ch, work even in pattern across row. (5, 5, 6, 6, 7 spaces).
Work 2 rows even. End off.
 
Attach yarn to the other side at the armhole edge, and work the other front to correspond, REVERSING the shaping. Sew the side seams. Dress is now worked down and around.
 
ROW 9—Attach yarn to the center DC (of the 3 DC) at the side seam. Ch 2, * 2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC under the Ch 2 space, 1 DC in the center DC, (of the 3 DC) repeat from * around, connecting the fronts as necessary, ending with 2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC under the Ch 2 space, slip stitch to the 2nd Chain.
 
ROW 10—Ch 2, * 2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC under the Ch 2 space, 1 front DC (yarn over the hook, insert the hook from the front towards the back, and then from the back towards the front, around the center DC, finish the DC as usual), repeat from the * around, ending 2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC under the Ch 2 space, slip stitch to the 2nd ch. Repeat Row 10 until piece measures 6½, 7, 7½, 8½, 9" from the armhole.
 
ROW 11—Ch 2 * 3 DC, Ch 3, 3 DC under the space, 1 front DC, repeat from * around, ending 3 DC, Ch 3, 3 DC under the space, slip stitch to the 2nd Ch. Repeat Row 11 until dress measures about 12½, 13½, 14½, 16½, 17½" from the armhole.
 
ROW 12—Repeat Row 11, working 1 chain, instead of 3, between the 3 DC. End off.
 
FINISHING:
Starting at the bottom right front edge, work a border of * 1 SC, Ch 1, 2 DC under the DC, skip 1 row, repeat from the *. Work the border up the front, around the neck, and down the other front, spacing as necessary. Work the border around each armhole.
 
Run the ribbon through the dress in the 3rd row below the armhole.
Sew on 3 buttons. Block if necessary.

LEFT FRONT:
Work the same as right front reversing shaping.
 
FINISHING:
Sew shoulders and sides. Work 2 rows of single crochet around vest and 2 rows of single crochet around armholes.
 
Make 2 chains 18 inches long for tie.
